New and Innovative Treatment for Sleep Apnea Available in Tampa
Alternative In-office Procedures Allow Sufferers to Forego CPAP Masks
Tampa, FL (November 1, 2013) – Sleep Apnea Treatment Centers of America (SATCOA), is bringing its innovative treatment offering to a new office in Tampa. Before SATCOA opened its doors, treatment options for the nearly 18 million sleep apnea sufferers included widely unpopular masks and devices including the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine and invasive surgeries to correct obstruction in the throat.
“Today, the approximately 1 in 15 Americans afflicted with this disorder have an alternative to uncomfortable, invasive treatment,” stated Jeffrey L. Silveria, MD, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SATCOA. “Sleep apnea sufferers are treated with a radiofrequency ablation (RFA) procedure in an in-office setting.”
Dr. Silveria took this advanced procedure from an inpatient, hospital operation to an outpatient, minimally invasive procedure that takes only two to five minutes over the course of five to eight treatments. RFA works by directing small amounts of targeted energy to the base of the tongue in the back of the throat. Following the procedure, the treated area heals, tissue is tightened and thus reduced in size. This tightening and reduction directly prevents the tongue from blocking the airway while one sleeps, reducing and virtually eliminating sleep apnea. Through the use of SATCOA’s innovative RFA procedure, patients are receiving care, which enhances their quality of life in a convenient, less painful manner.
SATCOA will hold its official ribbon cutting ceremony to launch their grand opening at the Tampa location this week with Dr. Silvera officiating.
