Due to its minimally invasive character, temperature controlled radiofrequency volumetric tissue reduction (RFVTR, or Somnoplasty) has received increasing attention in the treatment of sleep-disordered breathing in recent years. Especially in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea caused by hypopharyngeal obstruction, radiofrequency surgery is the only minimally invasive technique that can be performed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure.
